2004 yılında Antalya’nın Gazipaşa ilçesinde doğan Ali Rıza Avcı, sinemaya olan ilgisini akademik disiplinle birleştirerek Erciyes Üniversitesi İletişim Fakültesi Radyo, Televizyon ve Sinema Bölümü’nde eğitimine başladı. Lisans süreci boyunca teorik bilgisini pratikle harmanlayan Avcı, T.C. Cumhurbaşkanlığı İletişim Başkanlığı bünyesinde gerçekleştirdiği stajıyla medya ve iletişim sektöründe profesyonel deneyim kazandı.

Yönetmenlik kariyerine 2025 yılında öğrenci projesi olarak çektiği "Köşedeki Oda" adlı kısa filmiyle adım atan Ali Rıza Avcı, sinema dilinde toplumsal bellek, insan emeği ve kadim geleneklerin izini sürmeyi hedefliyor. Özellikle belgesel ve kurmaca türlerinde, doğa ile insan arasındaki çetin mücadeleyi ve yok olmaya yüz tutmuş kültürel değerleri özgün bir görsellikle beyaz perdeye taşımaya odaklanıyor. 2026 yılı Haziran ayında lisans eğitimini tamamlayacak olan yönetmen, çalışmalarına bağımsız projeler ve akademik araştırmalar ekseninde devam etmektedir.

Born in 2004 in the Gazipaşa district of Antalya, Ali Rıza Avcı began his journey by merging his passion for cinema with academic discipline at Erciyes University, Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema. Throughout his undergraduate studies, Avcı blended theoretical knowledge with practice, gaining professional experience in the media and communication sector through an internship at the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, Directorate of Communications.

Taking his first step into his directing career in 2025 with the student short film project "The Room in the Corner" (Köşedeki Oda), Avcı aims to trace the footprints of social memory, human labor, and ancient traditions through his cinematic language. Focusing on both documentary and narrative fiction, he concentrates on bringing the arduous struggle between nature and humanity, as well as vanishing cultural values, to the silver screen with a unique visual aesthetic. Set to complete his undergraduate degree in June 2026, the director continues his work through independent projects and academic research.

Film, köylülerin balta sesleriyle başlayan zorlu çıra toplama sürecinden, el emeğiyle yapılan geleneksel katran ocağının günlerce süren ateşle imtihanına kadar her aşamayı titizlikle işliyor. Uykusuz geçen gecelerin, isli yüzlerin ve yoğun dumanın arasından damla damla süzülen şifalı katran sıvısı, sadece kadim bir üretim tekniğini değil; aynı zamanda yok olmaya yüz tutmuş bir zanaatın son temsilcilerinin sabrını ve alın terini simgeliyor.

Focusing on the arduous struggle between nature and humanity, this documentary tells the story of cedar tar trickling from the hearts of centuries-old trees on the steep slopes of the Taurus Mountains. The film meticulously captures every stage of the process, from the grueling collection of resinous wood starting with the sound of axes to the traditional kilns' days-long trial by fire. Amidst sleepless nights, soot-covered faces, and dense smoke, the medicinal tar fluid that emerges drop by drop symbolizes not only an ancient production technique but also the patience and labor of the final craftsmen preserving a fading heritage.
